Our Early Years Foundation Stage is made up of two classes: Wheal Lovely and Wheal Friendly. Both classes operate as one learning unit where we share the areas of learning between both classrooms with the children accessing all of these during our daily continuous provision. On this page you will find a wealth of information about our curriculum and how we plan this into termly learning themes as well as following the children’s interests; examples of children’s learning and lots of photographs and other useful links.

Space Odyssey

Wheal Lovely and Wheal Friendly had an amazing start to the term. To launch the new EYFS learning theme ‘What an earth?’ we had a visit from Simon at Space Odyssey. The children went inside a space planetarium dome which immersed them into outer space. The children learnt all about the different planets and the adventures of astronaut George. It was fantastic!

Here is some amazing learning

Exploring our Local Environment

EYFS have had fun exploring our local environment. We have spent a lot of time at the church practising our Nativity. We spent some extra time there yesterday having a look at the layout and key features. Together we created a map for our Geography display. We used some fantastic adjectives and positional language.

Jo Lumber from Falmouth Art Gallery
Wheal Lovely and Wheal Friendly were visited by Jo Lumber from Falmouth Art Gallery today who leads the storytelling programme 'Tell Us A Story'. Jo worked with each class on our story of the week 'The Three Little Pigs', where they worked in collaboration to re-tell the story and worked together to represent the main parts of the story through art with a focus on language and vocabulary.
In class we followed our predictions from earlier in the week to test which of the three little pigs houses would be the strongest. The children worked in groups to build a house of straw, a house of sticks and a house of bricks and tested which one the big bad wolf could huff and puff down.

Our Maps to get to Grandma's House

Today EYFS were Geographers! We looked at a variety of different maps and learnt how to get information from them using the symbols and keys. We linked this to our Traditional Tales topic and took a walk outside to plan our own maps to get to Grandma's house like in Little Red Riding Hood. We discussed the human and physical features around us and the children used great directional language

A very royal day
A very royal day was had by all in Wheal Lovely and Wheal Friendly. The Royal Ball was filled with dancing, giggles and party games. When the bell rang 12 it was back to class for royal sandwiches the children had made previously that day using their plans.
The Jubilee picnic was a big hit, the children wore their royal crowns and waved their Union Jack flags to celebrate.
There are lots more photos on Tapestry!
