British Values at Treleigh

Schools have a duty to ‘create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British Values of Democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.'

At Treleigh British Values run through everything we do.

Democracy
As our pupils progress through the school our curriculum emphasises many aspects of democracy.
The school has active School Ambassadors.

Rule of Law
To ensure this is realised, school rules are important. ‘The Treleigh Way’ is a whole school approach we use to support and celebrate positive behaviour both in and out of the classroom. This underpins our school behaviour policy where   there are sanctions to be used where necessary and the opportunity to personalise a support programme for pupils in consultation with their key adults and family.

Individual Liberty
Pupils opinions are respected; with many opportunities to be shared.

We take collective responsibility to ensure that individual liberties are respected.
We run a comprehensive range of interventions to ensure all learners can achieve their potential.
We have a comprehensive afterschool club offer which the majority of pupils attend.

Mutual Respect
It is a primary aim of our school that every member of the school community feels valued and respected, and that each person is treated fairly and well. Each week we have a ‘Celebration Assembly’ within which we recognise pupils for a number of different reasons.
Our pupils take on a broad range of responsibilities including librarians and sports leaders.
Our pupils have many talents that we showcase through a range of performance opportunities.
We actively support charitable causes and have raised money for a variety of causes, including local food banks and the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Tolerance
At Treleigh we educate pupils from a range of backgrounds from many different places. We are a caring community who aim to promote an environment where everyone feels happy, safe and secure. Discrimination isn't tolerated and is dealt with quickly. Every member of the school community is encouraged to behave in a considerate way towards others.
We treat all children equally and aim to help children to grow in a safe and secure environment, and to become positive, responsible and increasingly independent members of the school community.
Our PHSE curriculum equips the pupils to negotiate, share and co-operate and our RE curriculum teaches the pupils about the beliefs of many religions. We have specifically woven through other opportunities within our bespoke curriculum to develop an appreciation of differences and to learn about the lives of others.

In addition to all the above British Values are debated in a weekly assembly in conjunction with local, national and global issues. We use Picture News as a platform to support this.
